SkillSelect is the online system run by the Department of Home Affairs to manage Expressions of Interest for skilled migration. Candidates lodge an EOI through SkillSelect, and the system ranks them by their claimed points.
Invitations to apply are issued in rounds. SkillSelect selects the highest-ranked candidates for each relevant visa and occupation and sends them an invitation, which starts the 60-day window to lodge a full application.
