Partner visa (820/801, 309/100)

The visas for the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen. The main applicant charge is A$11,710 for most applicants from 1 July 2026.

A partner visa is applied for in two stages at once: a temporary visa and a permanent one. Applicants in Australia use subclass 820 (temporary) and 801 (permanent); applicants outside Australia use 309 and 100. The Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) is for a fiancé(e) who plans to marry in Australia.

From 1 July 2026 the charge for most main applicants is A$11,710 across 820/801, 309/100 and 300. Home Affairs processes family visas under Ministerial Direction 117, which gives highest priority to applications made in Australia for a visa that can be granted in Australia, and publishes no fixed partner processing time.
